Paso Doble Classes, Thursdays in September & October, 6:45 p.m.
The Alianza Latinoanamericana invites you learn this dance which interprets and portrays a bullfight. Paso Doble atmosphere is powerful, intoxicating and intense with fierce drama and captive energy. It puts the audience under its majestic and magical spell. Danced at its best it requires both composure and stealth. Paso Doble was originally a dance simply depicting the actions of the Matador with the lady portraying the cape. It has now progressed from that style with the dancers enacting the role of the torero, picador, banderillero, bull, or Spanish dancer, interchanging their roles at will. Paso Doble is all about shaping. All movements start from a shape into a shape. Square alignments are out. The arms and hands display roundness and strength when moving from one position to another, always helping to keep the line and rhythm. Level: Intermediate. Ages: 16+. Hip Hop Dance Classes, Fridays in September & October, 7 p.m.
Get the music going, learn the steps, and start dancing Hip Hop! The class is first broken down into combinations, Then each combination is broken down into counts, and each count into movement. In the end all the moves and all the combinations are put together, and the dance is formed. In order to learn Hip-Hop, we will learn step by step how to create combinations, and then put them together into dance. International Folk Culture Center, 411 S. Aerial Dance Classes, November 3, 5, 17, 19 & 24, 7:15 - 8:45 p.m.
Julia Langenberg is the full time aerialist in the show "Viva!" at Sea World and has performed and taught for Blue Lapis Light, the aerial dance company based out of Austin. Northwest Vista College is hosting her as their aerial guest artist this fall and spring and she is also teaching silks for the Boerne Gymnastics Circus Arts Program. She is available for
private lessons as well. No previous aerial training is necessary, as she is experienced in teaching individuals at their own skill levels in a group class. The classes at Jump-Start are currently priced at $60/class to cover the expensive rent, but if enough people register for the classes, the price may be lowered. Summer Dance Intensive, August 3 - 7
Ballet Arts School will be hosting this serious dance students with a minimum of 2 years dance training, ages 9 and up. Classes will be taught by Michele Gifford, former member of the New York City Ballet and Texas Ballet Theatre, Pattie Obey, former member of the Gus Giordano Dance Company, Julie Morton-Simpson resident Artistic Director of Alamo Arts Ballet Theatre and Judith Gani, owner of Ballet Arts School, among others. St. Mary's Hall Dance Department Ballet Classes
