High School Fine Arts Magnet Academy is a program consisting of coursework
in the following strands: Theatre Arts, Dance, Music, and Visual Arts.
Our mission is to produce graduates with a liberal arts foundation that
will allow them to contribute in varied disciplines to our diverse multicultural
society. The study of fine arts is essential to the development of an
educated citizen. It is a solid foundation upon which all other disciplines
can be built. By stressing creativity and infusing the fine arts throughout
the curriculum, we strive to produce not only the artists and performers
of tomorrow, but also citizens who will continue to enrich their own lives
through the enjoyment of the fine arts. The dance program provides a dynamic
experience through cultural, classical, and modern forms by which students
discover how communication is conveyed through movement. Students receive
instruction in ballet, jazz, modern, and ballet folklorico as well as
a study of dance history and kinesiology. Theatre arts offers a self-expressive
journey of creative discovery that explores the aesthetic, cultural, and
historical context of drama. Students develop lifelong skills and self-discipline
through participation in both production and performance. Classes include
technical theatre, acting, musical theatre, and set design. The music
program provides individualized and diverse musical studies including
choir, band, guitar, and piano. In addition, classes in music history,
music theory, composition, and private lessons are offered. Visual Arts
explores meaning through the univeral language of artistic expression.
Hands-on opportunities, working with professional artists, and studies
of art history and a variety of art styles are offered.
