San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet

San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet, established in 1983, is the only local member of the prestigious Regional Dance America / Southwest. Under the direction of Susan B. Connally, SA Met is a non-profit, regional dance company dedicated to providing high quality, low-cost productions for the San Antonio community while offering local dancers and choreographers the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities through performance experience. SA Met accepts intermediate to advanced level dancers age twelve through young adult in our Apprentice, Jr. and Sr. Company levels. Our Trainee level is comprised of 9-12 year old dancers with a minimum of two years of dance. As a member of RDA, SA Met Ballet presents two major productions each year; the fall production is a story ballet while the spring production presents a varied repertoire including contemporary works.

As a member of Regional Dance America, a national association of ballet companies, our dancers have the opportunity to attend master classes with teachers of international acclaim and audition for scholarships to prominent dance programs and colleges. The Regional Festival also incorporates three nights of adjudicated performances.

SA Met membership auditions are held in the spring and summer. Company membership is open to the San Antonio Metropolitan area and rehearsals are held on weekends.

The 2008-2009 Season celebrated SA Met Ballet’s 25th Anniversary. 2009-2010 will prove to be an exciting season with SA Met Ballet’s production of Cinderella on October 30th and 31st, and in September and April, hosting the Regional Dance America/SW Festival at the Municipal Auditorium and El Tropicano Hotel. Master classes will be open to San Antonio area dancers on September 19th at the El Tropicano Hotel, taught by the directors of Regional Dance America/SW. Performances for the Regional Dance America/SW Festival will be held April 8-10, 2010 at the Municipal Auditorium featuring 24 dance companies from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
