San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet, established in 1983, is the only local member of the prestigious Regional Dance America / Southwest. Under the direction of Susan B. Connally, SA Met is a non-profit, regional dance company dedicated to providing high quality, low-cost productions for the San Antonio community while offering local dancers and choreographers the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities through performance experience. SA Met accepts intermediate to advanced level dancers age twelve through young adult. As a member of RDA with Honor Company status, SA Met presents two major productions each year; the fall production is a story ballet while the spring production presents a varied repetoire including contemporary works.
As a member of Regional Dance America, a national association of ballet companies, our dancers have the opportunity to attend master classes with teachers of international acclaim and audition for scholarships to prominent dance programs and colleges. The Regional Festival also incorporates three nights of adjudicated performances. SA Met membership auditions are held in the spring.

Susan Connally, Artistic Director of San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet, was named President of the Board of Regional Dance America/Southwest (RDA/SW) at last weekend’s Festival held in Abilene, Texas. Previously, Mrs. Connally has held other Board positions for RDA/SW such as Membership Chairman and was Treasurer for the past three years. In 2000, Mrs. Connally received the Stream Award, presented by the Stream Foundation of Louisiana, for artistic excellence and her contribution to RDA. In 2003, she collaborated with San Antonio’s Omni-Video Productions to create the promotional video for RDA/SW. In her new role, Mrs. Connally will be attending the national meeting of RDA on April 28th through May 1st being held in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina during the Southeast Region Festival. Regional Dance America was founded in 1988 to promote the artistic development of dance companies throughout the United States, continuing the important work that was started in 1956 by the National Association for Regional Ballet. The five regional organizations of RDA were established under the guidance of the National Association of Regional Ballet (NARB). Over two hundred companies, including more than two-dozen nationally recognized professional groups, have been NARB or RDA member companies. The main objectives of RDA are to promote its mission on a national level, to define and maintain the artistic standards of quality to which regional organizations are held and to provide uniformity of the five regions. Every year in each of the regions, member companies, share four days of classes, lectures, seminars and social events. Evening performances are held showcasing the member companies, demonstrating the growth they have achieved throughout the year. In 1999, San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet hosted Festival at Municipal Auditorium, at which time their yearly concert, Dance Kaleidoscope, became a Fiesta event. This festival brought over 600 dancers, master instructors, company directors and family members to Municipal Auditorium and the downtown San Antonio Area.
