Video from the Scholarship Party |
Julia Cauthorn was a beloved arts patron whose support and love for dance was always felt in the San Antonio community. Her spirit for dance is perpetuated through the scholarship that bears her name.
Julia Cauthorn was a charter member of San Antonio Dance Umbrella, an insatiable follower of such internationally renowned dance companies such as Merce Cunningham Company, a dedicated devotee to Canadian choreographer William Whitener, a longtime supporter of San Antonio dance in all its forms and an outspoken advocate of contemporary dance presentation in this city. Known as the “Duchess of King William,” for her pioneering work in the revitalization of the now artist-dense Southtown sector of San Antonio, Cauthorn's contributions to the cultural life of this city have been rich and far-reaching. |
The San Antonio Dance Umbrella is pleased to honor her contributions to the dance community. SADU hopes that members of the San Antonio arts community and the international dance community will join us in recognizing Julia's lifelong cultural contributions through generously supporting this scholarship fund, specifically designed to support and advance the training of young San Antonio dancers and choreographers. Financial assistance provided through the Fund is based on merit and need and may be applied to defray trainings costs, such as summer training opportunities or college tuition.
If you'd like to make a contribution to the Julia L. Cauthorn Scholarship Fund for Young San Antonio Dancers & Choreographers, please send it to SADU, P.O. Box 830634, San Antonio, TX 78283.
