New Ballet Company Announces Cultural Collaboration Performance

January 2005 marked the date for the formation of The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas and the Conservatory Company under the Artistic direction of Judith Gani and Charlton O’Neal. The Company’s mission is to fulfill the needs of young dancers who desire performing opportunities. The Conservatory’s intent is to duplicate the experiences of a professional ballet company for the young talent in the community.

The Conservatory’s first performance was June 12, 2005 at the Carver Community Cultural Center. The Company performed “A Bit of Ragtime,” and “Poeme Electronique.” The Company dancers performed “Suite in the Old Style,” with guest performer Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio of the San Antonio Symphony and her accompanist. In addition, Sant’Ambrogio performed an independent work. The City of San Antonio Flamenco Dancers under the direction of Mona Lisa Montgomery rounded out the June program.

The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas will hold open auditions for the 2007-2008 season April 22, 2007. Auditions will be held for Company Members, Apprentices and a Trainee Program. Auditions are for dancers ages 11 – 21. Men are strongly encouraged to audition, regardless of age. Dancers will be selected by a panel of judges. If selected, the dancers will strive to meet the same artistic standards of a professional company in their dance training, rehearsals and performances.

All dance training for Company members will be at the Ballet Conservatory of South Texas. Classes in various dance mediums will be offered. A set fee will enable each dancer to take as many level appropriate classes as desired. In addition, adult classes will be offered.

Current members of the company are; Elizabeth Arnim, Jennifer Castaneda, Charlotte Cooper, Jason Cox, Josephine Deahl, Erin Galvan, Beth Huddleston, Kristen Kellogg, Rachel Kutler, Rebecca Lederer, Melanie Lux, Taylor Perez, Analisa Rodriguez, Angel Santiago, Bryn Schiele, Juliet Taylor, Libby West and Paula Wolf.

Other projects scheduled for the Conservatory Company are a series of lecture demonstrations in schools, Caravan Concerts for the surrounding cities of San Antonio and a benefit musical performance for the BCSTX.

Officers for the New Company are: Susanne Reem Cooper-President, Susan Petty Arnim-Vice-President, Polly Smith-Treasurer, and April Leidner-Secretary. Freda Facey and Charles Falcon will act as advisors to the Board.
